
Come to Loudoun Therapeutic Riding and have some fun in the sun with our herd! Join us for one of our week-long inclusive (all abilities), educational summer sessions, taught by PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors and Equine Specialists in Mental Health & Learning, supported by trained volunteers. A volunteer session may be available to current volunteers who would like to further enhance their knowledge of horsemanship and equine care.
Students must be at least 6 years old, independent in a group setting and able to take care of own bathroom needs. All students must have a current application and physician’s release on file.
Schedule:
9am: Student arrival
9:30 – 11:30am – Groom and tack horses, then riding lesson or groundwork begins (30 – 45 min. mounted lesson or groundwork which is an un-mounted lesson)
11:30am – 12:15pm – Arts & crafts/other farm activities
12:15 – 12:30pm – Closing circle

Definitions:
Therapeutic Riding: An equine-assisted activity that involves sitting astride a horse and promotes the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of individuals.
Carriage Driving: An equine-assisted activity for those students who cannot, or choose not to sit, astride a horse, yet can still benefit from the interaction with the horse and the equine activity.
Unmounted work: An equine-assisted activity that combines hands-on farm and horse activities that taps into the benefits of spending time with horses without sitting astride or in a carriage.
